Spyglass Prism is a multidimensional technology that delivers severalkey benefits to a variety of markets. It accelerates downloads. Spyglass Prism 2.0 features JPEG image compression, which dramatically reduces the memory size of an imagewhile minimally affecting its quality. Spyglass Prism can also reduceimage sizes by converting 24-bit color images to a smaller color paletteor to grayscale. HTML elements that are not supported by therequesting device are also removed, further reducing the amount of datathat needs to be downloaded. Combined with Spyglass Prism's cachingfunctions, the result is content displayed up to four times faster thanis possible without Spyglass Prism.
It allows all devices to access the Web. The Web contains anabundance of information that is useful to mobile users, provided it canbe distilled into a format suitable for small-display devices. Througha feature known as data mining, Spyglass Prism 2.0 allows specificinformation to be extracted from existing Web pages and placed in atemplate appropriate for the device. For example, the most essentialinformation from a weather page, such as current conditions, temperature, and humidity, could be extracted and delivered to devices such as mobilephones.
Version 2.0 of Spyglass Prism offers an improved customization mechanism, which allows Spyglass Professional Services or Spyglass customers,to quickly add custom conversion routines to Spyglass Prism at any time.Administrators can create new conversions within a matter of hours, allowing them to keep up with the increasing number of new non-PC devices.
The ability to reuse existing, standard Internet content opens up a vast world of content to users of non-PC devices, without relying on content providers to createspecialized versions of the content for each device type.
Spyglass Prism's conversions are based on the display and browser characteristics of thedevice. That ensures that content originally formatted for viewing on aPC will look good on a variety of devices.
Spyglass Prism 2.0 delivers the reliability demanded by infrastructure environments in which it is deployed. In rigorous testing designed to mirror customer environments, Spyglass Prism handled over 11.5 million hits without any failures.
