Mountain View, Calif.--Feb. 20, 1998 -- The North Americansemiconductor equipment industry posted a book-to-bill ratio of 0.94 forJanuary 1998, it was reported by Semiconductor Equipment and MaterialsInternational (SEMI; Mountain View). A book-to-bill of 0.94 means $94 in orders werereceived for each $100 worth of products shipped.
Three-month average shipments decreased in January 1998 to $1.5 billion.The figure is 42 percent above the January 1997 level, yet it is fivepercent below the December 1997 level. Three-month average bookings alsodecreased in January 1998 to $1.4 billion. The bookings figure is 24percent above the January 1997 level, yet is 10 percent below the December1997 level.
The SEMI book-to-bill is a ratio of three-month moving average bookings tothree-month moving average shipments. Shipments and bookings figures arein millions of U.S. dollars.
