Naperville, Ill.--March 24, 1998--Spyglass announced that it has established a Java Consulting Practice to work with consumerelectronics, telecommunications, cable, and direct satellitecompanies interested in adding Java and Personaljava technologyto their products. Spyglass is currently cooperating with Sunon the development of Personal Webaccess, a feature-rich compactWeb browser based on Hotjava technology for devices that runthe Personaljava platform. In a related announcement, Spyglasswas named by Sun Microsystems a charter member of their newJava Consumer Alliance Program. As a part of the program, Spyglassexpects to work closely with Sun on referred projects, as well as to seekout opportunities independently.
Potential projects in addition to the browser are other on-lineapplications for the consumer electronics, telecommunications, and cabletelevision and direct satellite markets. Spyglass also plans toleverage its significant experience with a number of different deviceoperating systems that will be essential platforms for Personaljavaapplications.
