San Jose, Calif.--March 16, 1998--Underscoring its commitment toMotorola's PowerPC microprocessors and the embedded communicationsmarketplace, the Microtec Division of Mentor Graphics Corp.announced support for four new members of Motorola's MPC850 family ofintegrated PowerPC microprocessors. Microtec's VRTX Development Systemfor Windows NT and Unix hosts, and Microtec's XRAY BDM (Background Debug mode) debugger for Windows 95 and NT hosts, willsupport the following new PowerPC processors: the MPC850DC, MPC850DE,MPC850DH, and MPC850SAR. Motorola's new communications processors willpermit cost reductions for a wide variety of internetworking equipment, including asymmetric digital subscriber line modems and small office/homeoffice routers.
By supporting the new MPC850 processors, Microtec is providing a naturalmigration path for embedded systems developers already using Motorola's68302, 68360 QUICC, and MPC860 PowerQUICC processors with Microtec's proven, real-time operating system (RTOS) and embedded development tools.Microtec's VRTX RTOS, industry-standard XRAY debugger, and optimizingMicrotec C and C++ compilers, allow embedded designers to deliver morecost-effective, highly reliable products from large distributed telecommunications systems to the simplest of components with no RTOS requirements. The XRAY BDM debugger provides all of the easy-to-use features inherent in the XRAY debugger for Windows, including a Windows-standard graphical user interface (GUI), an integrated editor, build facilities, and interfaces to popular source code management systems.
Microtec's XRAY BDM debugger and the Microtec C and C++ compilers areavailable now for the new MPC850 processors. The VRTX development system, which includes the VRTX RTOS, XRAY debugger and Microtec C and C++compilers, will be available for the above processors on Unix hosts in Q21998 and on Windows NT hosts in Q3 1998. Pricing for the XRAY BDM debugger for Windows 95 and NT hosts starts at $2,600 for a single-user license, includingsoftware, documentation, and BDM cable. Pricing for the Microtec C and C++compilers for Windows 95 and NT hosts starts at $2,000 for a single-user license, including software and documentation. VRTX development system pricing starts at $6,750 for a node-locked license on Windows NT hosts and at $7,000 for a floating license on Unix hosts.
