Santa Clara, Calif.--March 16, 1998--Attendees at this year's International Verilog Conference (IVC) will see demonstrations of a Windows NT-based compute simulation farm for the electronic design automation (EDA) market, featuring products from PlatformComputing, Compaq, and Cadence Systems.
This simulation farm consists of multiprocessor workstations and file servers fromCompaq that run Platform's LSF Suite for workload management to optimize theperformance of Cadence's Verilog-XL Turbo for Windows NT.
Platform's LSF Suite harnesses all available computing resources and puts them intothe hands of the design engineers when and where they need them. Encompassingdistributed load sharing, dynamic job scheduling, and workload analysis andmonitoring for heterogeneous Unix and Windows NT computing environments,LSF gives users a highly flexible and scalable workload management tool.
The Compaq Windows NT-based compute farm being demonstrated at theInternational Verilog Conference and VHDL International Users Forum is composedof 24 rack-mounted Compaq Professional Workstation 8000s (six per rack) and twoProliant 5000 file servers connected by 100-Mbyte/s FDDI collapsed ringconcentrators. Each Professional Workstation 8000 features four 200-MHz PentiumPro Processors, 2 Gbytes of RAM and 4 Gbytes of disk space. Compaq selected theProfessional Workstation 8000 for its power, scalability, and its ability to berack-mounted. The Professional Workstation 8000's ability to address up to 3 Gbytesof memory made it ideal for memory-intensive applications such as Verilog-XL. TheProfessional Workstation 8000 also features Compaq's innovative highly parallelsystem architecture, which delivers two to four times the memory bandwidth andtwice the I/O bandwidth of other Intel processor- and Windows NT-based systems.
