San Jose, Calif.--March 16, 1998--ISD (Information Storage Devices, Inc., San Jose) introduced the ISD-T267 Compactspeech series, a family of digital voice processors with advanced digital telephone answering device (DTAD) functionality and interface support for flash memories from multiple suppliers. With the parallel operation of on-chip RISC and speech processing engines, the ISD-T267 devices offer high-quality speech processing and a number of telephone features, such as full duplex speaker phone capabilities, multicountry caller ID support for the United States (Bellcore), as well as Japanese, Spanish, French, Dutch, and German speaking countries. In addition, the ISD-T267 has a versatile memory interface that includes parallel and serial flash device support and handles telephone memory functions, such as the storing of speed dial numbers and LCR (lowest cost routing). Compactspeech provides up to 16 minutes of recording time (per 4-Mbit flash memory device).
The ISD-T267SA, ISD-T267SC with caller ID, and ISD-T267SP with full duplex speaker phone, all support multiple-supplier flash memories. The ISD-T267 series interfaces with Toshiba's TC58A040F and Samsung's KM29NO4OT flash memory devices to provide a cost-effective solution for DTAD and integrated DTAD applications.
Compactspeech technology can be used in a wide variety of stand-alone and integrated DTAD products. It's ideal for cordless phones with advanced features like multicountry caller ID and speakerphone. In addition, it serves applications like personal digital recorders and voice message systems. Compactspeech products have all the functionality "on-chip" to do complete message handling and allow for easy and seamless integration into existing designs.
The Compactspeech processor integrates the functions of a traditional digital signal processing (DSP) chip and 16-bit general-purpose RISC core implementation of the CompactRISC architecture. It contains system support functions, such as interrupt control unit, codec interface, Microwire interfaces to microcontrollers and flash memory, Watchdog timer, and a clock generator.
The Compactspeech firmware implements voice compression and decompression, tone detection and generation, message and data storage management, speech synthesis for time and day stamp, and supports user-defined voice prompts in various languages. The Compactspeech processor also applies echo-cancellation techniques to support high-quality DTMF tone detection during message playback. In addition, the Compactspeech processor can synthesize messages in various languages via the International VocabularySupport (IVS) mechanism. The ISD-T267 series can store vocabularies on either flash memory or Expansion ROM memories, allowing DTAD manufacturers to create machines that "speak" in various languages.
The ISD-T267 product family is priced from $4.60 - $4.80, depending on the package and feature set, for quantities of 10,000 units. The product line will be available in June.
