San Diego, Calif.--March 9, 1998--Applied Micro Circuits Corp. announcedthe latest additions to its planned family of +3.3-V, high-performance silicon solutions for 2.4-GHz Sonet OC-48 applications. The S3041 8-bit transmitter and the S3042 8-bit receiver chip are aimed at Sonet/SDH/ATM-based transmission systems, and dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM).
The S3041 transmitter incorporates on-chip clock synthesis phased locked loop(PLL) components allowing the use of a slower 155.52-MHz external transmit clockreference. The transmitter chip is a fully integrated Sonet OC-48 (2.4-GHz)interface device performing all necessary parallel-to-serial functions, clocksynthesis, system clock decoupling, line loopback, and diagnostic loopbackfunctions in conformance with Sonet/SDH transmission standards. The receiverchip, S3042, implements Sonet/SDH deserialization, frame detection functions,and loopback functions. The chipset can be used to implement the front end ofSonet systems consisting of serial transmit interface and serial receive. Both chipssupport a low-jitter LVPECL interface that guarantees compliance with the bit-errorrate requirements of the Bellcore, ANSI, and ITU-T standards.
The chipset offers designers of Sonet/SDH-based transmission systems, modules,and test equipment a compact package outline suitable for section repeaters, adddrop multiplexors, broadband cross connectors, and fiber optic terminators.
Both the S3041 and S3042 are packaged in a 100-pin TQFP measuring 14 mm ( 14 mm or 0.55 in. square. The S3041 is priced at $169 in quantities of 100. TheS3042 is priced at $110 in quantities of 100. Samples of both chips are availablenow.
