Sunnyvale, Calif.--April 27, 1998--The Electronic Device Group of Mitsubishi Electronics America, Inc. (Sunnyvale) and SRS Labs, Inc. (Santa Ana, Calif.) announced that Mitsubishi has developed a single-chipimplementation of the SRS (Sound Retrieval System), 3D surroundaudio technology.
Mitsubishi's simplified the SRS 3D sound processor, the M62438FP,making it available in an extremely small 10-pin SOP package for cost-sensitive two-speaker systems, such as those found in personal computer, consumer audio, and television applications.
The M62438FP features a simplified SRS 3D sound circuit that isactivated and deactivated by an on/off function switch. The chip iseasy to implement in OEM applications with left and right sound inputsand outputs and with a supply voltage operating range of 4.5 to 12V (9 V, typical). The chip features a 400-mW power dissipationat less than 25 degrees C, with a thermal derating of 4 mW/degree C at greater than 25 degrees C.
Samples of the M62438FP are now available with volume productionscheduled for May 1998. Pricing is $1.45 each in 5,000-unitquantities.
