Synopsys Promotes Chi-Foon Chan to President and COO
Mountain View, Calif.--May 26, 1998 -- Synopsys, Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.) has promoted Dr. Chi-Foon Chan to president and COO, reporting to Dr. Aart J. de Geus, chairman and CEO. Dr. Chan also serves as a member of Synopsys's board of directors.
As president, Dr. Chan assumes full operational responsibility for managing the company's business. All general managers and senior vice presidents of the company now report directly to him. For the past year, Dr. Chan shared the office of the president as COO, with primary responsibility for internal operations and worldwide sales, service, and support.
Dr. Chan joined Synopsys in May 1990 as vice president of applications engineering and services. In 1994, he was promoted to senior vice president of the design tools group, with responsibility for synthesis-based products. In 1996, he was promoted to executive vice president, office of the president.
Dr. Chan has more than 20 years' experience in all aspects of the EDA and semiconductor businesses, including operations, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer support. Prior to Synopsys, he was general manager of the Microprocessor Group at NEC, responsible for all NEC microprocessor devices in North America (uP, uC, DSP, peripherals). Prior to NEC, he worked at Intel in various senior engineering management positions.
