San Jose--June 15, 1998--Sonics Inc. (Los Altos, Calif.) announced a Virtual Socket Interface Alliance (VSI) pilot project between Sonics and Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. to help the establishment of the on-chip bus interface specifications.
Both companies have been actively participating in the VSI on-chip bus development working group (OCBDWG) for the last year. The current focus of OCBDWG is to develop peripheral and system bus Virtual Component interfaces and transaction languages.
The companies have defined a project to verify the effectiveness of the proposed interface in an actual design environment. The design uses the Sonics Integration Architecture (SonicsIA) as a platform to integrate Virtual Components, including a Fujitsu SPARClite core, which is a 32-bit processor core for system-on-a-chip (SOC) designs.
The VSI pilot project is defined along with the VSI OCBDWG schedules. The two companies will from time to time report to VSI on the progress of the project, starting with feedback on peripheral VC interface specifications.
