Mountain View, Calif.--July 14, 1998--Shoichiro Yoshida, president of Nikon Corp. (Japan), has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI; Mountain View). Yoshida is the first Japanese chairman of the SEMI board and succeeds Peter Younger, vice president and general manager of Eaton Corp.. The election was conferred at SEMI's annual membership meeting in San Francisco during the Semicon West 98 exposition.
A member of the SEMI board since 1990, Yoshida was elected vice chairman in 1997. He is an active participant in many of SEMI's executive programs and committees, including co-chairmanship of the International Trade Partners Conference (ITPC) committee.
