Top EDA Veteran Joins Synopsys to Lead Epic R&D
Mountain View, Calif.--July 23, 1998--Synopsys Inc. (Mountain View) announced the appointment of Dr. Edmund K. Cheng, 49, to the newly-created position of vice president of research and development for its Epic Technology Group.
In his new role, Cheng is responsible for managing Epic's worldwide R&D teams in developing interconnect- and transistor-based extraction, simulation, analysis, and verification solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of IC designs. Cheng reports to Synopsys' general manager and senior vice president, Gary Larsen.
Cheng brings to Synopsys more than 20 years of experience in management and engineering with high technology companies in the EDA and diversified electronics industries. Most recently, Cheng was president and CEO of Anagram, Inc., which was acquired by Avanti Corp. in 1996. Before co-founding Anagram in 1994, Cheng was co-founder and vice president of engineering for Silicon Compilers, Inc., which Mentor Graphics Corp. acquired in 1990. Post-acquisition, Cheng stayed on as director of strategic programs and was responsible for the analog, mixed-signal and DSP design automation products. Prior to founding SCI, Cheng held engineering and management positions with Intel Corp. for seven years. He holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University and a master of science and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology.
