Wilsonville, Ore.--July 23--Mentor Graphics Corp. announced that Renoir '98 has become the first EDA tool qualified to receive the Designed for Windows NT and 98 logo.
To qualify for the Microsoft 98/NT logo, Renoir '98 was tested against apredefined set of technical criteria by Veritest, an independentmicrocomputer product test laboratory. Microsoft's Windows Logo Program wasdeveloped to help end-users easily identify desktop hardware and softwareproducts designed specifically for the Microsoft Windows family of 32-bitoperating systems, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 95 and Windows 98. Thelogo indicates that Renoir '98 has been thoroughly tested and works well in today'sheterogeneous desktop computing environments.
One of the most significant benefits for Renoir users is full OLE support. This allows users to drag and drop any Renoir diagram into any OLEapplication, such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Framemaker. Once the diagram isinserted, text can be added as usual.
Renoir '98 offers the choice of either linking or embedding. With alinked diagram, information is retained in the source Renoir diagram. With anembedded diagram, an entire copy is made that subsequently becomes part of thedocument. Both methods allow users to simply double-click on the embeddeddiagram to open it in Renoir.
Because all file types (state machine, flow chart, symbol and block diagram) are automatically registered in the Windows registry, they receive icons. This gives users the option of launching a Renoir '98 editor simply by double-clicking on the icon in the Windows Explorer. Diagrams also can be dragged from the Windows desktop into OLE applications.
Renoir '98 also includes a full graphical install, which properly registers all components and automatically detects the operating system. The automated uninstaller ensures that core components or shared components necessary to other applications are left intact. Long file names also are supported.
Pricing for Renoir '98 starts at $3,000. It is available on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT, as well as Sun Solaris and HP-UX. It supports additional plug-in interfaces to Model Technology's ModelSim; Mentor Graphics' Monet; Exemplar's Leonardo-Spectrum; Synopsys' Design Compiler, VCS, FPGA Express and VSS; and Cadence'sVerilog-XL and Leapfrog. VHDL and Verilog language support, together with all interfaces, are included at no extra charge. Renoir '98 is year 2000-compliant and has been developed using ISO 9001-approved procedures. Renoir is distributed through both the Mentor Graphics and Model Technology sales forces. A fully functional free evaluation version can be downloaded from www.mentorg.com, or www.renoir.com.
