Sunnyvale, Calif.--July 20, 1998--Virtual Silicon Technology, Inc. and AmkorTechnology, Inc. announced that they have entered into a joint marketing and technology agreement to support Amkor's second-generation 0.25 m semiconductor process with Virtual Silicon's 0.25 m Diplomat-25 libraries as the foundation of customer-ownedtooling (COT) solutions. COT customers can create complex system-on-a-chip(SOC) designs with Virtual Silicon's high performance Diplomat-25 standardcells, I/Os, and memories targeted to Amkor's advanced technology.Designers can leverage the "one-stop shopping" Amkor provides in itsturnkey semiconductor manufacturing services.
Under the terms of the agreement, Virtual Silicon's Diplomat-25cell-based libraries are available immediately for initiating chip designs.Amkor will accept prototypes in Q3 '98 and production is scheduled forearly Q4. A test chip is under way to verify the Diplomat-25 design rules,provide timing correlation, validate I/O performance and reliability, andfinalize tooling procedures.
