Fremont, Calif.--March 29, 1999--Virage Logic Corp. (Fremont) has announcedthat Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC; Hsin-Chu, Taiwan) isthe first foundry to support its Custom-Touch memory compilers--which allowSOC developers to select memories optimized for their applications--on a0.18-m process. The new compilers will implement a set of architecturalinnovations that will reduce power consumption and increase systemperformance for companies implementing systems on a chip.
At the same time, Virage unveiled a new program called the Silicon-ProvenCharacterization Program (SPCP), designed to eliminate risks associatedwith using third-party IP and to deliver high yield and reliability acrossa wide range of process technologies.Both initiatives cover all Custom-Touch application-specific compilers,including the High Speed, Ultra Low Power, and High Density families.
Virage developed the compilers based on TSMC's design rules, SPICE models,and technology. The Custom-Touch High Density family offering will befollowed by the high-speed and ultra-low-power families.
The Silicon-Proven Characterization program is designed to guaranteesilicon proven cores and to make them available sooner than they have beenin previous generations. The first Silicon-Proven Characterization Reportincludes the results of the testing and characterization using multipletest chips and configurations from Virage's Custom-Touch High Densitymemory compilers at 0.25 m.
Virage's Custom-Touch compilers for COT customers start at $100,000(one-port register file). The Silicon Characterization Report is availableto TSMC's customers free of charge directly from Virage.
