Sunnyvale, Calif.--June 28, 1999--Philips Semiconductors (Sunnyvale) announced the availability of the SC28L92 Dual UART, the third member of itsnew Impact line of communication devices. Philips Semiconductors certifies that as a member of itsImpact family, the SC28L92 operates at 3.3 and 5.0 volts, with either the Intel or Motorola bus andfully supports both the commercial and industrial temperature ranges.
The Philips Semiconductors Data Communications Group unveiled the Impact Line of products, which is intended to simplify device selection and reduce inventory management costs. Impactproducts include the Dual UART SC28L92, the 4-channel SC28L194, and the 8-channel SC28L198.Philips Semiconductors' Impact design requirements enable SC28L92 operation in eightenvironments and provide a significant reduction in part inventory by combining eight part typesin one package.
The most recent addition to the Philips Semiconductors Impact line, the SC28L92 Dual UART, is asingle-chip CMOS-LSI communications device that provides two full-duplex asynchronousreceiver/transmitter channels in a single package. It interfaces directly with microprocessors and may beused in a polled or interrupt driven function. The SC28L92 is a pin and function equivalent of all DualUARTS offered by Philips Semiconductors, with the following added features: 16 character receiver, 16character transmit FIFOs, watch dog timer for each receiver, mode register, extended baud rate andoverall faster speeds, programmable receiver, and transmit interrupts.
Samples of the SC28L92 are available now in both a 44-pin plastic leaded chip carrier and a 44-pinplastic quad flat pack from Philips Semiconductors and are priced at $5.64 in quantities of 10,000pieces.
