Irvine, Calif.--July 29, 1999--Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC; Irvine) announced their 512 Mbit NAND flash components and 64Mbyte Smartmedia cards.
Toshiba achieved this density by packaging two single level cell 256 Mbit NAND flashEEPROM die in TSOP and Smartmediapackages.
Toshiba is currently the only supplier able to produce a single level cell 256 Mbit NAND and a 512 MbitNAND flash solution. The 256 Mbit NAND die on which these new products are based use 0.25 &3181;m process technology and a shallow trench isolation cell, adapted from Toshiba's Scalable byDesign approach. This enables the company to achieve greater storage capacity within a smallerarea without sacrificing chip performance.
Toshiba's new high-density 512 Mbit NAND solutions are available in two packaging options, each ofwhich includes two of Toshiba's low-power 256 Mbit die. The TC58512FT is encased in TSOP Type Ipackaging. The TC58512DC incorporates Toshiba's Smartmedia packaging, providing 64 Mbytes ofremovable storage.
Identical page and block specifications are used, making the new Smartmedia devices fullybackward-compatible with existing products. Both devices operate with a 3.3-volt single powersupply, which meets the low-power requirements of portable equipment.
Samples of Toshiba's TC58512FT 512 Mbit TSOP device and the TC58512DC 64 Mbyte Smartmediadevice, are available now, priced at $240 and $250, respectively. Production quantities will beavailable in fourth quarter 1999, and production pricing will be available at that time.
