SYDNEY, Australia Altium Ltd. has released P-CAD 2002, a new version of its pc-board layout software with about 60 new features that address board complexity, the company said. The company, formerly named Protel Ltd., said the upgrade improves ease of use and provides greater control.
A major addition is a Design Manager feature that will allow users to view and manage design data more easily, the company said. Design Manager presents spreadsheet-like component and net views that can be integrated into P-CAD 2002's board layout environment.
Visual Placement Area (VPA), another new feature, is an interactive rules-based placement tool. When a component is being added to a layout, VPA analyzes design constraints and displays overlays that represent the regions of a board to which the component can be placed.
P-CAD 2002 makes it possible to display an individual net's traces, connections and objects in their own unique colors. Other notable features include support for Valor's ODB++ file format, support for True Type fonts in Gerber and ODB++ formats, component clearance rule checking, and various user interface refinements.
P-CAD 2002 is available now for $9,995; upgrades start at $1,995. A 30-day, fully functional trial version will soon be available for downloading from the Web.
