Cypress Semiconductor has joined Quicklogic in making a device that combines programmable logic with dedicated high-speed serial comms links and logic.
Aimed at telecoms switches, the Programmable Serial Interface (PSI) products combine a serialiser-deserialiser with programmable logic.
Chris Jones, Cypress' senior FAE, says the PSI series from other products already available such as Quicklogic's hardwired cores (Electronics Times 15/10/00) in the quantity of SRAM and programmable logic available.
"SRAM is one of our core competences," he said. "The PSIs use PECL [psuedo-ECL] differential drives, which we believe have higher performance than LVDS and get to higher bandwidths."
The ICs are designed to manage a bandwidth range of 200Mbit/s to 12Gbit/s.
Richard Kapusta, Cypress senior product marketing manager, said: "Serial connections eliminate cross-talk while increasing system speed, reducing noise and providing scalability."
