US-based design automation firm Silicon Perspective has joined the X Initiative, becoming its first member in the chip-design tools business outside founder Simplex Solutions.
Simplex set up the X Initiative to promote 45° routing as a way of increasing the density and speed of large chips. Up to now, most of the members have been companies that concentrate on manufacturing equipment or analysis tools.
Simplex developed a placement engine to create designs to take advantage of the vaunted benefits of 45° routing. Silicon Perspective brings its own placement engine as part of its chip-level prototyping environment First Encounter.
Ping Chao, Silicon Perspective president and CEO, said: "Our customers are pushing the envelope with some of the largest system on chip designs. Many of these customers are interested in the X approach."
