Chelmsford, MA — Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced two SMT MMIC VCOs that provide low phase noise and high output power for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, VSAT, military and test equipment applications in the frequency range, 20.9 to 26.8 GHz.
Designated HMC738LP4(E) and HMC739LP4(E), these GaAs HBT MMICs provide superior output power and phase noise performance over temperature and are an excellent choice where small size and excellent repeatability is required.
Like other VCO products from the company, both devices integrate resonators, negative resistance devices, and varactor diodes, and feature fundamental, RF/2, and divide-by-16 outputs. For added flexibility, the divide-by-16 prescaler function can be disabled to conserve current when not required.
The HMC738LP4(E) is a fully integrated VCO that provides output power of +9 dBm, and delivers very low SSB phase noise of -95 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. This low-noise VCO accepts a tuning voltage from 1 V to 13 V, and provides an output frequency from 20.9 GHz to 23.9 GHz.
The HMC739LP4(E) is a fully integrated VCO that provides output power of +8 dBm, and delivers a low SSB phase noise of -93 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. This low-noise VCO also accepts a tuning voltage from 1 V to 13 V, and provides an output frequency from 23.8 GHz to 26.8 GHz. Both VCOs are an ideal choice to drive the LO port of many of the company's double-balanced mixers, image reject mixers, and I/Q receiver products.
Both VCOs are conveniently housed in miniature 4- x 4-mm RoHS compliant QFN leadless SMT packages and are specified for operation over the temperature range, -40 to +85 degrees Celsius. These MMIC VCOs consume only 200 mA and 192 mA of current respectively from a single +5 V supply.
