Dallas - Ericsson's PKL 4000 family of high-current half-brick dc/dc modules delivers 50 and 60 amps at 1.8 volts from a 36- to 75-V input.
At 37 watts/inch3, the PKL 4918 PIT (50 A) and PKL 4118 PIT (60 A) offer among the highest power densities of half-brick modules. The hot-pluggable modules feature synchronous rectification, planar magnetics, a special low-resistivity pc board and patent-pending thermal-management elements to achieve maximum power efficiency of 87 percent (at 60 A).
The thermal design keeps the output MOSFETs at less than 10 degrees C above the baseplate temperature, contributing to high reliability, Ericsson said, quoting a mean time between failures of 2.2 million hours. The modules require no series diodes for parallel operation, a boon for higher-current applications, especially at voltages below 3 V, Ericsson said.
The PKL4000 is short-circuit proof, and includes built-in overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature protection. It also has soft-start, remote turn-on, output adjustment and remote sensing. These devices are recognized to UL1950 and comply with EN60950 standards.
The PKL 4118 PIT is priced at $154 each, and the PKL 4918 PIT at $144, both in 500-piece quantities.
