Carlsbad, Calif. - Crafted to push quarter-brick converters into designs that once used half-bricks, the QM48T40 and QM48T45 from di/dt Inc. deliver 40 and 45 amps, respectively, for high-performance datacom and telecom systems (nominal 48-volt input).
Billed as the first two series of dc/dc converters in the QmaX line, the quarter-bricks are available in standard output voltages of 1, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2, 2.5 and 3.3 V.
The converters claim minimal derating at elevated temperatures with low airflow-for example, 70 degrees C at 200 LFM-performance that the company says compares favorably with competitors' typical 40- and 50-A half-brick products. The high-efficiency (up to 93 percent) QM48T45033, for example, delivers 45 A at 3.3 V, or 150 watts. That equates to a power density of 145 W/cubic inch. The open-frame packages weigh only 1.1 ounces.
"Converters in the quarter-brick package need to meet or exceed the performance of half-bricks to justify replacement of the latter," said Apurba Roy, president and chief executive officer at di/dt. "These converters do just that, while easily outpacing recently announced 50- and 60-A quarter bricks."
The converters are protected against remote sense, input undervoltage lockout, thermal shutdown, remote on/off, output overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuits, and also feature output voltage adjust. The QmaX converters meet the basic insulation requirements of EN60950.
The QM48T45 is priced at $85 and the QM48T40 at $81 each, both in 1,000 pieces.
