Ottawa - Decoder ICs from Mitel Corp. are said to boost performance in satellite and terrestrial TV set-top boxes, integrated television sets and PC applications. The MT312, for satellite applications, and the MT351 for terrestrial are designed to provide fast autoscan capability for detection and tuning of digital TV channels. They also include the digital functionality needed to support interactive services such as two-way television, e-commerce, video-on-demand and digital video encoding, the company said.
Each has been combined with Mitel tuners in reference designs that provide front-end solutions, reducing time-to-market and also trimming manufacturing costs by eliminating the need for production alignment and RF screening.
The MT312 is a single-chip variable-rate digital quadrature phase-shift keying satellite decoder that integrates two 6-bit A/D converters with a controller for acquisition and tracking modes. It can scan the complete Astra band in under 10 seconds, the company said.
The MT351 incorporates coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplex technology that optimizes performance in the presence of a low carrier-to-noise ratio. Broadcasters gain wider coverage and better reception, with lower power dissipation, Mitel said.
Each part is packaged in an 80-pin MQFP. In lots of 100,000, the MT312 is priced at $3.90 and the MT351 is $10.99.
