SAN RAFAEL, CALIF. Panamax says its Powermax 8 TEL surge protector safeguards computer systems with modems or other telephone lines in a new way. In using what the company says is a new joule technology, the product handles an unlimited number of surges.
Exclusive "protect or disconnect" circuitry protects equipment no matter how big the surge may be, Panamax said. It either absorbs and reroutes the surge energy to ground or, in the event of a catastrophic surge exceeding 1,020 joules, disconnects the power to the equipment.
The Powermax 8 TEL has eight protected ac outlets, all spaced to accommodate transformers for maximum flexibility. Four outlets are always on and four are switched. It comes with EMI/RFI filters. For safety, a diagnostic light indicates proper grounding.
For phone or modem protection, Powermax 8 TEL is equipped with fuseless protection circuitry for automatic resetting capabilities. The "Signal Perfect" circuitry is claimed to ensure complete protection and a clean, clear connection on all signal lines.
The ac protection circuit has a 200-volt clamping level with virtually instantaneous response time. The unit has a UL 1449 rating of 330 V on all three legs of power: line to neutral, line to ground and neutral to ground. In case of extended overvoltage, thermal fuses shut off power to connected equipment, preventing fire hazards.
Powermax 8 TEL retails for $35 and carries a lifetime warranty for both the product and connected equipment.
