CAMARILLO, CALIF. Vitesse Semiconductor has introduced its VSC7130, a dual repeater/retimer for improving signal quality and eliminating jitter transfer for duplex serial links. Also new from the company is its VSC7132 serial link replicator for routing serial signals in Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, Sonet and HDTV applications at speeds up to 1.5 Gbits/second. Both new parts are members of Vitesse's 3.3-V Velocity line of CMOS ICs.
Tom Brokaw, senior product marketing manager for the SAN Products Group, said the VSC7130 is intended for use in hubs, JBODs, switches, routers, RAID systems and other critical system interconnects in storage-area network and local-area network equipment.
The chip's job is to ensure that bidirectional sig-nal quality meets Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet specifications.
The VSC7130 includes two digital FibreTimer repeater/retimer cells plus additional circuitry for FC-AL hubs. Over 70 I2C-accessible registers are provided for FC-AL hub support where the VSC7130 is used as a single hub.
The part can be configured as a retimer on the output of a system and as a repeater on the input. The VSC7132 allows a duplex serial link to be connected to two destinations for greater flexibility in system configurations.
The VSC7132 is packaged in a 28-pin TSSOP and is priced under $3.50 in quantities of 10,000. The VSC7130 is packaged in a 10-mm 64-pin TQFP and is priced under $10.
