Boone, N.C. Designed with engineers in mind who have a need for higher surge capabilities in critical safety applications, TT electronics IRC Wirewound and Film Technologies Division has developed a new series of rugged surge resistors to manage overloads in motor control circuits for automotive and industrial applications.
Designed to handle a pattern of overloads within a circuit, the High Surge Film (HSF) series resistors also provide excellent heat dissipation and a higher surge/pulse capability with its cylindrical design than comparable flat chip resistors. These HSF resistors can also serve as a replacement for more expensive surface-mount wirewound resistors and are suitable for harsh environments where heat and vibration are of concern.
The HSF resistors are fully rated to 1 watt at 70°C with a maximum operating temperature of 150°C. The devices are available in a resistance range from 10 ohms to 10 Kohms with a 10% tolerance. TCR specs are ±50 ppm/°C and ±100 ppm/°C. Other specifications may be available for special applications.
The new series features a MetalGlaze thick-film element fired at 1,000°C to a solid ceramic substrate, and a high temperature dielectric coating that is suited for harsh automotive and industrial applications.
Typical pricing for the HSF resistor is $0.14 to $0.16 each in quantities of 100,000. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
