Passive component vendor Epcos AG has acquired Aktiv Sensor GmbH. The Stahnsdorf, Germany, based company specializes in design and production of piezoelectric pressure sensors.
The move enables Epcos to complement its temperature sensor product range by pressure sensors, the company said. "Aktiv Sensor's product portfolio nicely fits together with ours", Epcos Chief Technology Officer Werner Faber said.
"With the acquisition of this company, we open new business opportunities in the seminal sensor market, strengthen our technology competence and improve our market position," he said.
The market demands increasingly combined sensors for pressure and temperature, Faber added. In combining these two types, Epcos sees a broad potential for synergies.
Besides offering broad application expertise, Aktiv Sensor also has competencies in designing and manufacturing of transducers for industrial, medical, aerospace and automotive applications, Epcos said.
In 2006, Aktiv Sensor's 60 employees achieved sales of 5million ($6.5 million). Financial details of the transaction were not provided.
