Broadcom today announced that Alcatel selected its StrataXGS III Ethernet switch silicon solutions for a new line of core switches, optimized for next generation enterprise networks. The StrataXGS III family enables Alcatel's OmniSwitch 9000 family to deliver high performance, feature rich 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switches for reliable and secure communication of data and voice, as well as for video broadcasting services.
"The industry-leading features that are integrated into Broadcom's
StrataXGS III switch products, including IPv6 routing and comprehensive security, have enabled us to develop the Alcatel OmniSwitch 9000 with all of the performance and features required for secure 10GbE converged enterprise networks," said Tom Burns, Vice President and General Manager of Alcatel's Network Infrastructure Business Unit. "We combined Broadcom's switching semiconductors and our own Alcatel operating system software to set new performance, security, availability and future-proof standards that support OmniSwitch 9000-based networks and the next generation of business innovation in the enterprise."
"Alcatel has enjoyed success with its edge stackable switches powered by Broadcom's previous generation of Ethernet switch chips, so we are pleased that Alcatel has now extended its portfolio to core chassis by adopting our industry-leading StrataXGS III chips," said Martin Lund, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Network Switching Business Unit. "The StrataXGS III family features the world's highest performing Ethernet switch chips and next generation capabilities such as hardware-based secure authentication, wire-speed IPv6 routing and multicasting. The innovative StrataXGS III architecture delivers the best mix of functionality, time-to-market and design flexibility, which further extends our market leadership."
According to Broadcom, the StrataXGS III 500 Series of Ethernet switch chips is ideal for standalone, stackable and chassis switch configurations supporting enterprise, service provider, and grid computing markets. They provide the architectural efficiency, design flexibility and carrier class features required to empower next
generation carrier networks.
The StrataXGS III 100 Series and 300 Series are optimized for the
cost-conscious, small-to-medium sized business (SMB) market, with such advanced capabilities as integrated security and application-aware quality of service (QoS). This QoS functionality guarantees reliable Voice over IP (VoIP) services and intelligent stacking technology with minimal IT management.
