LONDON picoChip has appointment of Steve Laurenson to the newly-created post of VP Engineering, freeing up Doug Pulley, co-founder and CTO who has been acting as VP engineering, to focus on strategic developments.
"We are doing so much more these days in technology terms and looking to future developments such as 4G and Long Term Evolution, as well as geographically, that we felt the time was right to create this role. Doug will also be looking at driving us into new markets and manage our increasing development work in China," Rupert Baines, VP of marketing told EE Times Europe .
A 28-year veteran of the mobile communications and semiconductor industries, Laurenson joins picoChip from Agere Systems where, amongst other roles, he established the company's 50-strong European GSM Development Centre. In this role, and subsequently as Agere's Mobile Terminal Division's Technical Services Director, he has extensive experience in directing teams to develop, deploy and support handset reference designs.
picoChip (Bath, England) said Larenson would bring this experience to drive the development of the company's own range of reference designs aimed at the UMTS, WiMAX, femtocell and wireless broadband markets.
