LONDON Electronic and industrial components distributor RS Components has started putting extra focus on serving companies that specialize in prototype production and small volume manufacturing.
RS (Corby, England), which has just celebrated 70 years in the component distribution business, said this will be done in part by adding several new lines and by setting up a dedicated sales team to serve such customers.
Richard Eden, market development manager at RS for the electronics sector, said the move is part of a three- year plan to extend the focus of the electronics segment of the business, the original one at the distributor. Other groups focus on process control and automation, and most recently, a group making inroads in supplying the buildings maintenance sector.
The extra focus on R&D departments and pre-production is already under way and aligned to a push into specific product groups, which has already included solid state lighting , embedded computing , human machine interface devices and most recently thermal management, "with many more planned for the next 12 to 18 months," said Eden.
He added sales at RS Components' electronics supply sector are growing this year, "even as AFDEC is indicating the distribution sector is experiencing a decline at the moment."
