LONDON Mobile WiMAX terminal chip supplier Beceem Communications (Santa Clara, Calif.) has completed initial interoperability testing between its chipset and Sprint's WiMAX infrastructure as part of the operator's Mobile WiMAX device launch preparations.
The "milestone" achievement is important as it shows the commercial readiness of WiMAX equipment and chipsets, according to Beceem.
Sprint is scheduled to launch its Xohm Mobile Broadband Service during the second quarter of 2008.
"This accomplishment is more significant than others in that it shows how Beceem’s chipset and team perform under intense pressure and scrutiny," said, Shahin Hedayat, CEO of Beceem. "It is very satisfying to be first to achieve this milestone together with some of the leading WiMAX infrastructure providers".
