BERLIN Sony plans to double annual production of its Bravia LCD TVs to 4 million this year at its plant in Nitra, western Slovakia, due to growing demand in Europe, according to a company statement.
The number of employees is also planned to increase from 2,300 to 3,500 by the end of December 2008.
“The expansion of our production capacity in Nitra is a clear sign of our determination to expand our TV business across Europe," said says Ryoji Chubachi, CEO of Sony's electronics division, in a statement.
To support the plant expansion, Sony will also open in September a logistics center in Nitra. The company hopes to make Nitra its production and distribution hub for Europe.
The Slovak factory is set to become Sony’s largest producer of LCD TVs worldwide, the company said.
