LONDON Intellectual property licensor Evatronix SA (Bielsko-Biala, Poland) has produced an enhanced version of its configurable 8051 8-bit microcontroller core.
The R8051XC2 performs at 0.088 DMIPS per MHz when the microcontroller is set to be 80C51-compliant only, and at 0.114 with all implemented enhancements. In other words the controller can be 10 to 12 times higher performing at the same clock frequency.
Evatronix did not state what enhancements it had made to produce such a performance improvement not whether the improvement was application-specific.
"Every one of over 200 of our successful 8051 designs has contributed to this success and made us the leader in 8051 IP. The R8051XC2, like its predecessor, is a milestone for 8-bit IP industry," said Wojciech Sakowski, president of Evatronix, in a statement.
For FPGA evaluation purposes a free demo version of the R8051XC2 free demo will be available for download from Feb. 9, Evatronix said.
