LONDON 4M Wireless Ltd. (Luton, England), the start-up focusing on protocol stacks for LTE technology, has licensed its technology to a fabless semiconductor company developing a multi-mode baseband chip for 4G.
The company would not reveal the identity of the licensee due to contractual reason, but a spokesman told EE Times Europe the client is already a leader in its field, is developing 4G multimode baseband chip for handsets and handheld devices and will have a completely integrated 4G solution later this year.
He added the vendor "is an established company with a successful track record in the baseband chipset sector, is quite ahead of the rest of the market in developing LTE technology and is already shipping chips capable of high data rates to the market." The customer has offices both in the U.S. and the Far-East.
Late last year, 4M Wireless won a major design-in with Sandbridge Technologies for the latter's multi-mode baseband/multimedia processors for mobile devices.
The company, founded in 2006 and backed by private investors, has developed the LTE stack as a complete Layer 2, Layer 3 and NAS protocol software compliant to the latest 3GPP Release 8 specifications and suitable for additional updates to the emerging standard.
The 4M Wireless LTE protocol stack is compatible with legacy 2G/3G protocol stacks as well as WiMAX stacks.
The company has been developing its PS100 LTE protocol stack since the start of the specification process for 3GPP Release 8.
The stack is already in use with companies developing LTE technology and is being tested with leading eNodeB vendors and conformance test equipment suppliers. The software is fully independent of operating system and hardware platform, and is designed for optimum processor utilization.
To simplify integration and interoperability testing, the PS100 comes supplied with a full set of test and debugging tools.
