LONDON Wireless chip group Mirics Semiconductor (Fleet, England) has appointed a former VP of sales and marketing at AMD to lead the company's growth in two potentially lucrative but mature regions.
Jay Numez, as Vice President, will head the start-up's efforts in the North American and EMEA regions, the company having to date focused on the Far Eastern market with its universal tuner chips.
Before serving as VP North American Sales and Marketing at AMD, Nunez was graphics chip specialist at ATI Technologies as VP World Wide OEM Sales prior to its merger with AMD. He has also worked in senior sales and marketing roles at companies such as National Semiconductor, Wavecom, ASAT and Motorola Semiconductor.
Commenting on the appointment, Simon Atkinson, CEO Mirics, said Nunez'’s wealth of commercial experience and success within the wireless, processor and electronics industries "have equipped him well to guide Mirics through the business challenges as we continue to extend the commercial reach of our hardware and software technology."
Nunez added: "The Americas and EMEA regions represent a large commercial opportunity for Mirics, and I am looking forward to working with the team to bring further successes."
Mirics' FlexiTV technology provides a complete system solution integrating RF and mixed signal silicon with software demodulation technology to enable TV and radio broadcast reception in portable devices at a revolutionary price point. The devices have already gained commercial traction within Asia.
