CAMBRIDGE, UK Varioptic announced it has developed its first liquid lens, the A316S, to offer optical image stabilization functionality to mobile phones
The autofocus liquid lenses are already in use in consumer, medical and industrial devices ranging from full HD DV camcorders, bar code readers, security cameras, dental cameras to machine vision cameras.
Varioptic has now finalized the next generation of optical image stabilization (OIS) lenses, correcting handshake.
Thanks to a multi- electrodes design, the lenses can tilt the light in all directions of space and, at the same time, refocus the light.
This ability to tilt the light enables camera module manufacturers to use the liquid lens to activate OIS by measuring the handshake and compensating for it in real time with the liquid lens.
The OIS functionality can restore an image quality comparable to that of a compact digital still camera.
With no moving parts, the A316S is very robust and uses less than 50mW during a shot. It can fit in typical autofocus camera modules.
