One of the reasons Honda favors hydrogen fuel cells is EVs just shift the problem to the grid. Honda hopes fuel cells create a different and better power ecosystem--someday.

Hey Rick, I just did one myself, but as it happens it's more coincident with your comment above on batteries being greener. I'm still not convinced that's the case. The batteries still have to be charged. Where's the power going to come from? A coal-fired plant in Pennsylvania. http://www.greensupplyline.com/blogs/224900247 Note, however, the column also highlights an interesting piece in the Economist lately on a side benefit of EVs: Hub Motors. http://www.economist.com/science-technology/displaystory.cfm?story_id=15949099 There's a really interesting discussion at the end of that one too. Thanks! Patrick

Beyond VC model transformation, what is needed is a reinvention of how innovation is encouraged via affordable start-up loans, grants, simplified research grant procedures, creation of creative ecosystems where established companies donate substantial capital, resources, lend mentors, organize contests to advance fundamental science not just applied product creation. I think Atiq Raza is willing to invest in the long term enabling breakthroughs which is a good thing.

Yes, its a relative term. Batteries in EVs are cleaner than gas in your car today. Of course biking to work and the market is even cleaner tech, but it doesn't make anyone more money along the way ;-)

Thinking of batteries in a conventional sense would support the comment from 'negative_delay_buffer'. However, as we all know, this is changing rapidly.

Funny, they're calling batteries "clean tech" when batteries are some of the most toxic stuff out there.
