Sunnyvale, Calif. - Real-Time Innovations (RTI) has partnered with Remedy IT to support the DDS for Lightweight CCM (DDS4CCM) standard. This is the first integration of Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-time Systems (DDS)-compliant middleware with the OMG's Lightweight CORBA Component Model (CCM) framework. The implementation provides systems integrators with a C++ solution for developing reusable software components and composing real-time systems. The open-source implementation will allow for rapid validation of the significant scalability benefits this delivers to large-scale systems integrators.
Component-model frameworks are frequently used for solutions to software development for large and complex systems of systems. RTI's implementation of the DDS standard has been used in more than 400 systems with stringent performance, scalability and fault-tolerance requirements. In addition, integration of both DDS and CORBA within the CCM framework enables rapid assimilation of CORBA applications into real-time systems-of-systems integration programs.
RTI Data Distribution Service is a fully standards-compliant integration platform for real-time systems. It meets the demanding requirements of mission-critical applications, including low latency, high throughput and fault tolerance. The solution can run in ad hoc and autonomous environments, as well as over unreliable networks such as wireless and satellite links. It significantly reduces integration time and cost by allowing individual subsystems to be added or upgraded without requiring changes to existing software.
The Component-Integrated ACE ORB (CIAO) is an implementation of the Lightweight CORBA Component Model (CCM) and Real-time CORBA built on top of The ACE ORB (TAO). CIAO provides the component paradigm to the domain of distributed, real-time, embedded (DRE) systems by abstracting DRE-critical system aspects, such as real-time QoS policies, as installable/configurable units supported by the component framework. Promoting these DRE-critical aspects as first-class metadata disentangles code for controlling these non-function aspects from application logic and makes DRE system development more flexible. Since mechanisms to support various DRE-critical non-functional aspects can be easily verified, CIAO will also make configuring and managing these aspects easier.
CIAO's DDS4CCM integrated with RTI Data Distribution Service is available now. The solution is included in the CIAO 0.7.8 micro release, which can be downloaded from http://download.dre.vanderbilt.edu. CIAO is open-source software that is commercially supported by Remedy IT.
CIAO's DDS4CCM is compatible with RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5, which is currently available in beta. General availability is planned in June 2010. RTI Data Distribution Service is free of charge for evaluation, research, universities and internally funded Independent Research and Development (IRAD). It can be downloaded from http://www.rti.com/downloads/.
