PCB West 2010 Addendum: I happened to spend a couple of hours yesterday a the PCB West Conference & Expo (http://pcbwest.com/) and visited IPC booth. The announcement above is one in many of the well-planned efforts by IPC to get the PCB and package design community in India a forum for exchange of knowledge and professional association including conferences and seminars. The organizer of the PCB West Expo, UP Media Group's Frances Stewart is not ruling out hosting a PCB Expo in India but sees the ecosystem only now starting to develop. To that end, she thinks the steps undertaken by IPC is a big help. Dr. MP Divakar

@KC: it is good to see your write ups again, I hope to see more from you in the future. IPC is a non-profit body so its sole mission is in training, standards development and education. Just like SEMI or GSA(its Indian equivalents like ISA) who have Indian presences, the local work force has a lot to gain by IPC's presence. IPC adds to the ecosystem of electronics and semiconductors in India. There needs to be many others who need to establish there presence, for eg., JEDEC, IEC, etc. There are challenges to IPC's mission in India, primary among them is to find competent people who can play in its ecosystem. They will be needed not only to train the trainers but also to establish local resource centers which can function along the lines of IPC itself. Compared to the consumption of electronic components and finished goods, the amount of manufacturing and assembly in India pitiful. This really needs to change. Dr. MP Divakar

This is a welcome news for the booming electronic manufacturing industry in India. There is lot of training requirements in the reworking for high tech electronic assemblies. In the current situation there is not many skilled people available in this area, IPC can asses the skill level of rework technicians and provide training to improve the same.

Lets see how much technological know how is being provided by Interconnect Group to knowledge hungry Indian in the field of pcb design and fabrication. As this field not much developed in India Interconnect Group has got a lot of potential in the country. But if they are purely for business they will not succeed in India.
