From engineering side yeah its truely exiting however for SW point, guys at each company having hard, sad times which came after global shift to free OS based systems. Nokia is at top just because their huge low-end handset shipments especially at BRIC countries where Sony-Ericsson lost their focus with this shift. Nokia will keep place at top for a while, however the table would be totally different from net sales-profit point of view.

Nokia owns the market - they only need to watch out for their competitors. I have not been pleased with the way Nokia allowed RIM and Apple to steal the show lately. If Nokia doesn't respond quickly, they may find themselves slipping like Sony Ericsson.

I guess you haven't used Samsung yet. Android is more user friendly than symbian.

The idea of shifting focus from mainstream to smartphone market is good. But SE need to have interesting smartphones which are constantly supported to be successful using this strategy. Unfortunately their top of the line smartphone Xperia X10 is still running one of the oldest version of Android. i.e 1.6. Inshort they dont give updated OS even for their flagship product. No wonder why SE doesnt sell many phones in the place where I live.

I am seeing only ordinary handsets from Sony Ericsson, not sure why they'd drop the mainstream focus. Apple's market share is ~3% with just one model - the iPhone which is a big deal - compare it with a platoon of models from Nokia & others...

Interesting numbers. In the smart phone arena, I am guessing that HTC would be in the mix. HTC and Samsung seem to be prevalent in US offerings (along with Motorola).
