http://www.embedinfo.com/english/product/k7.asp K7 MID is also a good choice for customer to use. It is more cheaper and can be programmed.

Not to mention the upkeep. Since you own the machine, you are responsible for it when it breaks or becomes obsolete. Better to have someone else take care of that for you.

Absolutely true from my personal usage and experience. Apple iPad has opened another market and the industry should pay Apple royalties.

I have one 8-cores machine but I probably need it once every week. What a big waste!! I hope cloud computing will come soon to save me this big 8-core workstation with utilization less 0.1%. I could finish 99.9% with laptop or even tablet.

I agree. Most people can use a tablet for 90% of their needs and the laptop or desktop for the remainder. Having the small portable tablet for most of the time is very convienent and you will see a large growth in this market for the next few years.

It makes sense to go for tablet if you primary intent is to browse the net and check the eamils. But if you need computational power then laptops makes more sense. So I am not too sure if comparing the tablet sales with laptop sales is appropriate. Anyways tablets are new to the market and people are excited to buy them. Eventually this excitement will go down and people will start purchasing based on their needs.

I wholeheartedly agree that for most people the tablet makes more sense over a netbook or even a laptop. With greater and much better displays the tablets offer more mobility and ease of use than the standard alternatives. I myself am an example, I had been a tablet skeptic but ever since I got my iPad, I have seen my laptop usage sink down by 50% or more.

David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
