Regarding security - all data transfers to and from the cloud are done with secure transfers using an RSA keypair where the private key is known only to the customer. While in the cloud, the data resides in an encrypted disk, where the key is automatically generated at boot time and known only to that instance. When an instance is either stopped or terminated, the (encrypted) storage is wiped. Regarding pricing - we will have a flexible pricing model for nCloud ranging from hourly (pay-as-you-go and scale-as-you-need SaaS) model to subscriptions (such as annual). Our whitepaper on nCloud details the architecture in greater depth. The paper can be downloaded from our website - http://www.nimbic.com/resources/nCloud.pdf Feel free to email at info@nimbic.com should you have additional questions. If you are attending DAC next week, we could demo as well as answer questions. We are at booth #2617.

Security is very important. If someone hijacks the information, the new design will be stolen. It would be nice to know how they guarantee security. What would be the relationship between the host and cloud computer? Does a software need to run on the host computer to connect to the cloud? Processing power of the cloud computer is indeed important. What's the price model?

Would be interesting to know a bit about the servers they host this on, such as do they use GPUs for some of the computational horse power.

It seems like the cloud is racing toward us. Thus far I've seen two different models -- one from Altium where they use it to download the latest version of their software to your computer, and the other from Tabula where you run your designs on their tools in the cloud. I'm scheduled to meet with Dr. Raul Camposano, CEO of Nimbic next week at DAC. So I hope to learn a lot more about this and I will report back to you later...

David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
