LONDON - Singapore chip packaging company STATS ChipPAC has appointed semiconductor veteran Pasquale Pistorio to its board of directors, effective July 1.
Pistorio was chairman and CEO of STMicroelectronics from its formation in 1987 building the company up to a top five position and has served as honorary chairman since his retirement in 2005. During his time in charge at ST Pistorio put down a considerable manufacturing footprint for the company in Singapore.
He has served as a non-executive director on numerous boards including those of Telecom Italia Mobile, where he has also been chairman, Fiat and Singapore's Chartered Semiconductor until its sale to Globalfoundries Inc.
David Patterson, known for his pioneering research that led to RAID, clusters and more, is part of a team at UC Berkeley that recently made its RISC-V processor architecture an open source hardware offering. We talk with Patterson and one of his colleagues behind the effort about the opportunities they see, what new kinds of designs they hope to enable and what it means for today’s commercial processor giants such as Intel, ARM and Imagination Technologies.
