Apple's gross margin last quarter is ~40%, very impressive. Actually, I think the debt crisis will boost the iPhone sale because it has been shown that new gadgets soothe people's anxiety. The iPhone sales marched through the worst part of the recession gloriously.

Apple makes interesting, compelling hardware and their marketing folks earn their money well! And they are controlling the software development so that get a piece of everyone elses pie too. That's why people buy Apple stock! THey have managed to stay at the top of the phone/tablet technology game. As long as they continue that, they'll keep killing! The recent slate of hardware from the likes of Motorola, HTC, and Samsung have left my iphone 4 coworkers in want, however. So far, however, I've not seen anyone switch "from" an iPhone.

Looking at future, this is not good sign for Apple iPhone. Like iPod, Apple should introduce few more models for iPhone and increase their market share to above 30% for long term stability.

Apple doesn't make (ie manufacture) its products.

This is interesting because we are told that Hardware has no good margin, only software. Maybe we are not making good hardware as Apple's

Its really surprising to know that despite holding only 5.4 percent share of the global handset market, Apple Inc is responsible for 57 percent of all cellular handset operating profits. This goes to show that profit margins are high for APPLE products. This fact might act counter productive to APPLE if spending power of the consumer reduces because of debt crisis.
