@sharps_eng, I think IBM completely sold its thinkpad business to Lenovo. I hope I am not wrong here.

@kinnar, Agreed Lenovo laptop's are not as fashionable as Dell/HP but it's other parameters like reliability are one of the best in the Industry. Many people in China and India prefer Lenovo because its cheap and it delivers neat performance.

What! Toshiba isn´t in the top runners? Lenovo's rise is due in part for acquiring IBM's Thinkpad portfolio. The Thinkpad lures old customers. Also low prices are the reason. Just saw a thanksgiving weekend sale which was too good to let go. 299 usd per a laptop with AMD dual core chip, 4 GB RAM, 15.6" screen, not too big on the hdd though... 360GB or something... but fair enough.

Lenovo's Thinkpad range came from IBM; is IBM a shareholder in Lenovo? If so, Lenovo's success is not all bad news for the US.

The weakness of US economy might have affected the sales of US brand. Instead, Lenovo is gaining popularity in China and Asiapac region. Given the population of China, it wouldn't be a surprise to me if Lenovo becomes the top rank in shipment in the near future. In terms of quality, I am impressed with Lenovo products. Competitive pricing and exceptional quality, it's good to the consumers.

Even though Lenovo computers are not good at the physical look the pvc parts as well are not comparable with good brands, but still they are being able to sell them are less price as compared with the competitors, may be this is the reason behind the huge increase in the sale of Lenovo. Yes the quality of the electronics and functioning is as always upto the mark.
