Increasing trend of using FPGAs in embedded platforms to reduce time to market taking advantage of reconfigurable computing, OS supporting multiple platforms and with differentiating smart features, small team with strongly integrated software & hardware engineers or the "system architecture" owning the complete development and helping in innovation, incorporating provisions in the hardware to enable the software to fix bug or update the system while the system is in use to make the system future-proof are seen clearly as some the trends going forward. Very well presented in this article!
