This is very encouraging news for embedded systems developers. The relentless drive to decrease $/GB has created some sizable challenges with regards to endurance and retention for flash memory systems in embedded applications. Continuing SLC memory with less aggressive scaling is a great help.

SPI NAND is indeed a good product for embedded market to address a spot too expensive for NOR but not viable for extremely high density MLC NAND. I would like to see 1Gb to 8 Gb density with build in ECC support. I am wondering whether Spansion could implement a small segment using NOR technology to better address reliability and fast boot issue. Micron has similar device but only has C-grade. I hope Spanion will provide I and Q grade as well.

16/15 nm NAND probably to be announced by end of this year. But to cover the QP costs as much as possible they need to go to 11/10 asap. That feasibility remains to be seen.

Very interesting. I continue to think that NAND market has already been won by Samsung because of their scale
