I'm not currently on the rumor grapevine for Global, but in semi usually the hiring and firing binges happen because of the demand for the products being manufactured. When people are buying the products, they ramp up production and hire like crazy; When demand drops, they layoff and fire and sometimes reduce hours.

Rumor says GloFo will acquire or ally with Taiwanese UMC(with Fab in Singapore) soon. Is it the reason?

The semiconductor industry is well known for having hiring and firing binges.

If we were smart enough to understand it, we'd be making executive-range salaries, right ;-)

What is this? Cut jobs during expansion and new technologies roll-out. I am confused.
