This is exciting news. After all the research papers about silicon nanowire anodes, it looks like somebody finally has a commercially viable solution.

This sounds to good to be true. What´s the catch?

The Amprius diagram mentions power density, but the article mentions energy density. I wonder if there's some misunderstanding.

Very positive news... So, lets put this in our agenda for next year, and see what realy happened.

A Tesla with ten times the current range. Now we're talking!

The catch? 1) 10X the energy density == 10X the fun extinguishing the flames. 2) Nanowire and automobile don't seem to be compatible words. Think: pothole.

The caption does say power density, but it quotes an energy density of 4200 mAh/g. I suspect that whoever wrote the caption isn't an engineer or physicist. I predict that there will still be people who have difficulty keeping their cell phone charged :-)

I agree with you, plus I don't understand how energy density is increased 10x with low resistance wire, seems like that would help more on peak power (or the carbon solution is really realy crappy eating up to 90% of total energy. If it is power, then the benefits are much more limited. Hmmm!

Or mobile phone, think drop!! My guess is it will be heavily potted eliminating that failure mode.
